Kari Gundersen

Counselling, Psychology, Mental Health

Hi there, I’m Kari. I was born in Vancouver and have lived here most of my life.

I became a formally trained dancer at age 3 and BC Champion at age 12. I left home at age 15 when the pressure to compete became overwhelming. I worked in dance companies, theatres, and art galleries until I became a therapist in my 40’s. Guided only by my creative spirit, I lived a whole lot of life along the way.

I graduated from Clearmind International in 2020 with a 3-year diploma in Transpersonal Counselling Psychology, and then a 1-year program with Dr. Gabor Maté in Healing Trauma and Addiction. I trained as a yoga therapist at the Vancouver School of Healing Arts and as an Abortion Doula through the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada.

My therapeutic technique is a holistic blend of my education in Transpersonal Psychology, Polyvagal Theory, Compassionate Inquiry, Inner Child Work, Narrative Therapy, Ancestral Healing, Shadow Work, and Post-Traumatic Growth. Tailored to each client’s needs and strengths, I use an intuitive approach to find the modality that works best for you.

I try to make therapy fun and memorable. I hope you’ll leave my office feeling inspired and energized. My framework is Progressive, Intersectionally Feminist, Pro-Choice, Anti-Racist, Queer, Trans, Poly, and Sex Worker friendly.

I want to help you live an inspired, interesting life that you LOVE. Reduce stress, grief, anger and anxiety. Learn constructive communication skills to improve your professional and personal relationships. Recover from traumatic incidents and strengthen the ability to regulate your emotions. Build self-esteem, self-love, inner peace and compassion. And make big decisions with clarity and confidence so you can navigate life transitions with ease.
